About Tracy
Tracy was first built in 1878 to support the Central Pacific Railroad's (now Southern Pacific) expansion from the Central Valley to the East Bay and San Francisco. Incorporated in 1910, the city grew rapidly as surrounding rail operations were relocated and irrigation systems evolved. Railroad operations began to decline in the 1950s, but Tracy continued to prosper as a vibrant agricultural region. Today, Tracy is the fastest growing city in California as Bay Area residents migrate toward the Central Valley in search of affordable housing and a relaxed suburban lifestyle.
Growing City
Over the past five years, Tracy has grown more than 20% and is expected to reach a population of 80,000 by 2010. Its proactive local government promotes commercial, industrial, and residential development, but with a strong commitment to preserving the city's small-town charm and hospitality.
Easy Commute
Tracy's central location and easy access to major transportation routes makes it a prime choice for Bay Area and Sacramento employees. The city is bordered by three Interstates (580, 5, and 205) and supports a local Ace Train Station with San Jose to Stockton route.

A recognized leader in education, the Tracy Unified School District provides safe and modern facilities enhanced by dedicated teachers and a student-centered curriculum. Oxford Square's children will attend Hirsh Elementary School, a California Distinguished School with a 7 out of 10 Great Schools™ rating, Earle E. Williams Middle School, and Merrill F. West High School, another California Distinguished School known for its exciting programs and cutting-edge technology.

Downtown Revitalization
Tracy is currently implementing a Downtown Urban Design Plan to enhance the visual appearance and economic viability of its downtown district. The Plan is focused on improving the area's streetscapes and building facades by planting new trees, refinishing sidewalks, installing decorative lighting fixtures, restoring historic architecture, and constructing overall design elements such as a gateway arch and a clock tower.
